BedRock Sway - Interview
1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from? Bedrock Sway. Flint, Michigan (the water is still bad). In Flint we refer to ourselves as Flintstones. On the cartoon the Flintstones are from Bedrock. Sway is a name I got from the streets because of my smooth demeanor. 2. What made you start making music? In middle school I played a few instruments (saxophone, percussion, piano, trumpet, guitar etc.) As far as rapping goes, my homies used to kick it in the basement and freestyle on Lil Wayne beats. I didn't know to freestyle and watching them made me want to learn how to rap. I've been doing it ever since. 3. Who are your influences? Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Big Sean, Lil Wayne, Wu Tang Clan, Kanye, Payroll Giovanni, etc. Also influenced by Motown. Grew up and hour away from Detroit so the old school songs stay in rotation. 4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now? I like it. We're in a time now where any and everybody can build their own platform and make the music they want. I like the diversity in rap. 5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music? I spent most of the year releasing music and building up my catalog. 2020 is going to be about expansion. I have a podcast, clothing company, and other things that I want to get off the ground. 6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be? I don't have one specific person, but I'd thank the folks who would laugh and talk trash about my music when I was in school. Those folks made me work harder and I've become A LOT better since then. 7. What is your process for recording music ? Find/make a beat. Sit down and listen for 30 minutes. Write my verse and record while it's fresh. I don't sit on songs for a long time because I'd spend too much time trying to edit and the song/project will never get released. 8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for? 'Bedrock' (6 song EP) will be on all streaming services Friday Dec. 6th. 'Japan (Ft. Sensational Roc)' will drop on Christmas. 'Cones 3' (full length album) will drop January 1st. 'Drip For Sale' (single) will be on streaming platforms January 11th. I also do random drops all the time. 9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper? Just being heard and being able to do collaborations with folks from around the world. As an unsigned underground rapper, I have a 6 song EP with an underground rapper from Asia. Not too many folks can say that. 10. What impact do you want to have on the world? I just want to help people and make a change. Not just in music but in life in general. Even if I can only change one person's life I will. 11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying? Music is my life. Through times when I didn't have anywhere to turn, music was there. It's 24/7, 365. I love music 12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why? Curren$y. He's smooth and laid back (like myself) and just stays in his own lane. He literally smokes hella weed, raps about his cars and clothes and kicks game to folks through his music. 13. What does the music you create make you feel? I produce and write based on what I'm feeling at the moment. So a song like 'NUMB.' is about depression, while 'Nostalgia' is about feeling good and reminiscing on old memories. 14. Why is music so important and dear to your heart? Because there were times where I was broke and homeless and had nobody. I'd put my ear buds in and write/listen to songs and I'd be in a good mood. Music is there and always will be. 15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)? I just tell myself that I have to stay motivated. Look for inspiration any and everywhere and never stop recording. 16. What's your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer? I'd have to say the work that I've done with Yousef Dave from Chicago. We met in a group chat in December of 2018 and started talking music. Since then we've released collabs songs and I've produced a few projects for him. We also plan on doing more work to help our communities. 17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own? I make all of it. For some of my future projects I am going to get artwork from others. I really want covers from Marko2Ten & TrillBazz. Their artwork is always smooth. 18. Who makes most of your beats or production? Me. Sometimes I link up with producers who want to work and do songs and projects, but lately I've been producing everything. 19. Who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why? ChrsDoe. I just like how his music flows. He has a lot of feel good music. 20. Who is one producer you wish to work with and why? MonstaBeatz. He produced some of my favorite Curren$y projects. I'd just like to flow on some of his beats. 21 Do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months? I'm putting together a show for the Summer. Currently looking at venues to host it. 22 For people who haven't heard of you what sets you apart from other artists? I just remain myself at all times, which nowadays is hard to find. I don't try and keep up with trends and look for clout. I just remain G and do me. 23 At the end of the day what does music mean to you? Everything. It's a counselor when you're going through hard times. It's can give you directions when you need guidance. You can find relationship advice in music. You can dance and sing to music. There's music and ambience for when you're trying to sleep or relax. Comedy when you need to laugh. Music is LITERALLY everything. 24. Any live shows or projects you got coming up? Bedrock - December 6th Japan (Ft. Sensational Roc) - Dec. 25th Cones 3 - January 1st Drip For Sale - January 11th 25. Where can the people that checked out this interview find you?
