BELLA MORtE - Interview

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?

My name is BELLA MORtE and I’m from Detroit.

2. What made you start making music?

I’ve always had an interest in music and I started making it back in high school, I was originally forming and playing in metal, punk, and psychedelic bands but had always wanted to mix these influences with rap.

3. Who are your influences?

My major influences are old Memphis rappers, Wu-Tang, Death Grips, Zillakami, Slayer, Death, Jimi Hendrix, Tame Impala and old Italian horror movie soundtracks.

4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

I think that the underground rap scene right now is really pushing the boundaries of the genre in ways never seen before, especially artists who have either created distinct sounds and others that seamlessly mix genres.

5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?

Well 2019 is almost over so I’ll go into my 2020 goals. I’m planning on dropping my third full length project in early January, playing shows and overall push my music to be the best it can be. I’m also hoping I can hit over 10k plays on my Soundcloud and Spotify pages.

6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?

I wanna thank everyone who has supported me but Ima thank 3 people outside of music who have really pushed me to make the best I can. First off, My homie Ricky, who started BELLA MORtE with me back in high school but ended up pursuing art over music. I wouldn’t be where I am without him. My cousin Aiden who was there listening back when I was just fucking around making beats on my iphone and has since been one of my strongest supporters. And last but not least is my amazing girlfriend Rachel, in the past few months she has been nothing short of incredible and has helped me make the decision to pursue music as a career. If any of you are reading this I love you all so much and never want you out of my life.

7. What is your process for recording music ?

I’ll make the beat, export it to my phone and write to it, then I’ll go into the recording session screaming, letting all my emotions out on the track.

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?

I’m working on my third full length project dropping in January, I’ve dropped 4 singles from it already and nothing is dropping until the project.

9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?

I love having the ability to create my own world to express myself in. It’s catharsis and experimentation at the same time.

10. What impact do you want to have on the world?

I want to present something that’s never been heard before in music, im trying to push the limits of genre, style, and extremity. This is also to help those who have been through the same struggles and experiences I have, y’all are not alone.

11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?

I’ve decided to pursue a career in media production and music technology. Music runs my life and I can’t see myself doing anything else with my life.

12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?

I really like what artists like Zillakami, Denzel Curry, and Scarlxrd are putting out, as a metalhead I think that aggression and complex production truly ties the genres of extreme metal and underground rap together unlike others.

13. what does the music you create make you feel?

It makes me feel more in tune with who I am and honestly gives me purpose to keep moving, no matter what happens I will always express myself through music.

14. why is music so important and dear to your heart ?

I grew up with a rich and diverse taste in music spanning genres upon genres thanks to my family and friends as well as my own self exploration. It runs through my veins and has saved my life in too many occasions to count.

15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)?

I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing for the past 2 years whenever I reach an obstacle. I’m going to keep grinding on tracks and concepts to be the best I can and get through it. Keep my foot on the gas and mowing down anyone who doubts me.

16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?

I’ve worked with a lot of artists but my favorite collaboration I’ve ever done was with my homie day3 for my album I dropped over the summer (Dove in the Tongue of the Serpent). He either featured or helped in production and vocal mastering on around 50-75% of it. We have very distinct styles but we pull the best out of each other when recording.

17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?

I make most of my cover art but I have commissioned friends to do art sometimes. Check out Odd People, Devillavhs, and Maijjasa they’re great and super talented.

18. who makes most of your beats or production?

Myself. I love having control of every sound and idea in my music but like before, I have used other peoples beats on rare occasions. I have 2 songs out with beats by my buddy Riche (IDKWTFIDA & Omen) and the track Doc Marten was produced by Ded333.

19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why?

I honestly don’t know at this point, I have a lot of musical icons but I can’t tie it down to just one.

20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why?

Probably THRAXX, His shit is so insane and visceral it’s honestly insane, maybe flying lotus as well.

21 do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months ?

I have one on January 12th at the Sanctuary in Detroit with day3, Proxie, Stefan James, and Muerto. It’s been my dream venue since I started forming bands and I’m excited to burn the place down in that pit.

22 for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists?

I’m an artist that is trying to put out sounds never heard before and create my own genre. I will always come out with new and fresh ideas.

23 at the end of the day what does music mean to you ?

Music means the world to me, it’s a universal language and sometimes its the only way people can understand who I am and the things I do. It’s what keeps me living and moving towards my goals.

24. Any live shows or projects you got coming up?

The full length project and Sanctuary show on January 12th.
