Danakin - Interview 28

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?

-I go by Danakin, and I'm from Charlotte NC

2. What made you start making music?

-I've always been into music since i was young, whether it was just playing around with the cheap keyboard I had or tapping pencils on a desk. When i moved out of my parents house they gave me a laptop as a gift for going on my own. The first thing I did was hop on the music program which, at that time, was Garageband. The rest is history.

3. Who are your influences in rap or beyond?

-Its hard to pick out specific influences. Im certainly influenced by the hip hop/rap music industry because thats mainly what i surround my self with, but when it comes to making music I let what i hear in my head be my main influence. On the onther hand I like to listen to the pros talk about there craft in order to gain more knowledge about music and become a better more creative and capable artist.

4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

-Its huge. Theres so many different kinds of music out there, and sooo many different and unique artists. You could look through the underground scene and find artists just starting out that are so talented that you just know they can make it. Also i feel a lot of underground rap stays good and fresh while the mainstream just gets old.

5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?

-I'd like to become a better artist. In every way. I wanna be better at the craft of making music while at the same time figuring out a good work flow so i can be as productive as possible. Lastly I'd like to work with more artists, really wanna get some collabs together.

6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?

-Id have to thank my good friend PoolboiFee. Not only is he a great guy but a great artist and teammate. Without his help and support I woudnt be so excited as i am to keep going and keep working towards my goals.

7. What is your process for recording music ?

-Starts with how i feel always, the way i feel is always incorporated into my music, so that way the music itself expresses feeling and emotion, whether it be sad or hype. Regardless of how i am feeling though I typically create the melody first, i think that part of the beat carries most of the emotion. After that, the drums. Then once i have the main sound for the beat, i extend it and add transitions and that usually brings the song together. I also record all the sounds by pressing record and playing it out rather than drawing it. Once the beats done I record lyrics and then its a wrap.

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?

-I actually just released a song called 'Better Way' with PoolboiFee. Also just released a beat titled 'Tru' on my soundcloud. I'll be dropping beats at least once a week for the rest of the year.

9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?

-I love having something and creating something of my own that I can present to others, especially if it can make someone feel good or feel happy.

10. What impact do you want to have on the world?

-I want to bring everyone happiness and peace. Music has the power to do that. In a world where theres no money, no laws, no government, music would still be there i feel, bringing people together. Thats what its all about.

11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?

-It started as a hobby but gradually I intend to make it a career somehow, whether it be selling beats or getting hella streams for a song with an artist, or possibly working alongside someone with our own brand. I make sure i work towards my goals everyday because i would love to work in the industry.

12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?

-I listen to a ton of artists, but i spend most of my time in the underground now, looking for real talent. When i first started making music my fav was definitely Travis Scott, as i feel he was making the most unique and dope music at the time(Birds in the Trap). Now , though, my fav has got to be a group of artist in the underground known as YMG. I found them on sound cloud and I think theyre super talanted rappers. Everyone should definitley check em out.

13. what does the music you create make you feel?

-It makes me feel like i accomplished something when i sit back and listen to a track i made. It feels like im contributing something that can really have an effeect on someone and make them feel good.

14. why is music so important and dear to your heart ?

-I got bad ADHD and i lose interest in things fast, but music is always there. I could never lose interest. Every time I get in the stu I feel good, and if i dont, I eventually will. Thats the power music has. I know that I can make something special every time i sit in my chair.

15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)?

-Sometimes I think, 'maybe this isnt for me', and its a scary thought and a bump in the road because i know that music is what i want to do. I just have to ignore those thoughts and keep going because music is what I love. I also ignore the plays i get. At this point for me its more about quality than streams. I dont let myself gets phased when a track doesnt get as many plays as i thought it would.

16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?

-I have a song in the works with Poolboifee and a producer, @HipsterBroking. Its so cool to make a beat with another producer because theyre always gonna have a few ideas that I could of never thought of that will help me become a better producer.

17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?

-I make all my own cover art at the moment but ive been looking around for some dope artists to make me some art. I'd like to have a different artist for every cover art.

18. who makes most of your beats or production?

I make all my beats, sometimes from scratch or i might sample a song, but when i do sample i make it sound almost nothing like the original.

19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why?

-Kendrick Lamar has always been one of my favorites and hes one of the best so i'd definitely like to work with him some day. Also, I think Anderson Paak is really clever musician it would be cool to collab with someone like that.

20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why?

-I like the sounds of Tyler Genius @tylerGENIUS, ive heard some dope beats from him. It would also be cool to work with Scott Storch, he could make me an awesome piano loop.

21 do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months ?

-No shows yet but hopefully some this summer

22 for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists?

-I think of my inspiration comes from myself and my brain, i cant point out any specific outer influences. I get in the studio and I just make whats on my mind.

23 at the end of the day what does music mean to you ?

-Music is abuot doing what I love and what makes me happy. Good vibes and keeping out the bad vibes.

24 does your family support you with music?

-Yes, they watch what im doing, like my posts, always trying to help.

25 at the end of the day when it comes to music we are in your world when listening to music by you...what type of vibe does your music bring ?

Usually I go for up beat, happier beats, full of melody, with 808s and a sweet drum pattern. I try to bring a good, musically satisfying vibe, so listeners can feel good.
