DRai$ - Interview 15
1. Tell us your name and a bit about yourself!
My name is Adrian Gonzalez and I'm a 24 year old artist from Tucson, Arizona.
2. What made you start making music?
Music has always been a big part of my life. Growing up I always had a wide variety of genres being introduced to me at home, so naturally I devolped a keen love for music in general. I started with instruments in elementary school but never took music seriously as something to pursue until my junior year in high school. Me and friends started freestyling at lunch time and people started taking videos and sharing it. This is when I began writing and practicing my craft.
3. Who are your influences?
As far as rap goes. I have to give alot of credit to Ice Cube, The Game, Biggie, Tupac, Kdot, J.Cole and many others. Hearing their lyrics and unique styles made me push myself to lift the bar in rap from a young age. Which inspired me to pursue my dream and really influenced the type of music I make today.
4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?
I love it. I love seeing how so many artists are striving to make good music and make a change in the mainstream rap scene. Nothing is more refreshing than to see new, original artist coming up in my city.
5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?
To continue to grow and perfect my craft as an aritst. Everyone now a days is more focused on trying to be on the scene and follow trends. I'm more focused on perfecting my music and gaining a genuine following off that. Definetly one of my goals is to also put my music on all major platforms so its easily accessible to anyone who wants to hear it.
6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?
I would like to thank my father. Although lifes problems separated us for awhile and we didn't always see eye to eye over my life choices. He saved my life and gave me the opportunity to chase my dream. His love and belief in my vision is the only reason my career is where its at today, so if there's one person I have to thank it's him.
7. What is your process for recording music ?
I don't really have a set process yet, but for the most part I pick a couple beats and freestyle my ideas to all. Then I choose the beats where the ideas flow and I feel I can make a better song to. From there I either pick a flow, or a couple lines or chorus idea and start the writing process from there. Sometimes I start with the verse, sometimes I start with the chorus but I definitely try to get one of those two solid before doing anything else.
8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?
Yes. I am currently finishing up my new mixtape " Univer$oul". I've put alot of time and effort into this project for myself and for my fans, so I know it's something you won't want to miss. Also I have some singles coming out that might suprise y'all so stay on tbe lookout 2019!
9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?
My favorite part of being an artist is being able to relate to people and our everyday problems and thoughts and put them into song. It's an amazing feeling when people come up to me and tell me my song helped them get through something or made them think.
10. What impact do you want to have on the world?
I want to have a positive effect on people's lives. I want to help anyone going through a hard time or having a bad day, I want to help people make memories and say " this Drai$ song reminds me of" and incorporate their memory with my song . Money and recognition comes with the work, but the positivity of art and the love of the music is what keeps me going.
11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?
Music is my life. I will not stop or be happy until music is 100% of my income and I can focus all my time to creating. It's more than just hobby or something I'm doing for money. It's part of me and who I am.
12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?
That's a hard question. So many good artists out right now. But if I had to name one favorite it would have to be Kendrick lamar. I've been following him since c4 and have bought every album and have seen him live multiple times. He's really inspired alot of what I talk about in music and one day I can only hope to affect and inspire people's lives the way his music did to me.
