Eastside X - Interview

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?

Eastside X (based on feeling like I was the Malcolm X of my side of town. Giving wisdom, just without religion. - Indianapolis, IN born and raised

2. What made you start making music?

2009, when I was 12. It was the year after my grandma passed away.

3. Who are your influences?

Ab-Soul, Capital STEEZ, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, & Metro Boomin.

4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

It’s based on popularity and income rather than talent. I could get featured on the same playlists and websites but I don’t have the funds to require it. I have a family to take care of.

5. What are your goals for 2020 regarding music?

I’ve already dropped 3 EPS to promote the release of my 3rd studio album ‘4’ dropping April 24th everywhere. Starting next month I will focus on my clothing line ‘DEMONTYME’ to fund my label ‘ARKK ANGELZ’ and the artists I have signed.

6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?

My producer @DJ_Noose for believing in my craft and helping me make classic albums back to back.

7. What is your process for recording music?

I freestyle 80% of my lyrics. If I’m not freestyling it’s because I don’t want to forget a bar so I will type it in my phone. I like my music to have no filter.

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?

I’m on part 4 of my project series “#4Albums4Months” where i drop 3 back to back EP’s January-March (‘SYNDIC4TE’, ‘VENGE4NCE’, & ‘DIGIT4L’). Now the 4th and final project dropping is ‘4’ (my official 3rd studio album) and will include 22 songs. [2+2=4] 16 of the tracks I’ve dropped since January + 5 unreleased tracks and my first solo produced instrumental as the outro track.

9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?

I have unlimited possibilities without the the need of a major label or even stepping outside. With a laptop, mic and iPhone, I can keep up with artists that have million dollar budgets. I’d rather create my own label and make my own company.

10. What impact do you want to have on the world?

I want to have enough eyes on me to say a few words and the entire world will stop until I’m done. I want a cult following that won’t turn on me because of social media influence and will actually support other avenues of me besides my raps. That’s when you can become very successful and change the world.

11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?

Music is 24/7 for me. I’ll spend 2 hours straight on a logo I might not use for 3 months. I need to be surrounded by art no matter if I’m making beats or engineering. Practice makes me perfect. Its fun rapping, but I don’t look at it as a hobby at all. It’s work to me. The day I get comfortable is the day I fail as a business.

12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?

Drake and Future. The only people that can rerelease the same exact album and chart and/or cause mass hysteria like its new music. [i.e ‘Care Package, Monster, & Purple Reign’] it’s 100% profit even if you barely make the charts. streaming and unclearable samples has made artist leave behind a lot of lost classics and those two have mastered the art of making timeless music and showing how timeless it is.

13. what does the music you create make you feel?

The music I make always makes me feel connected to the universe. Like I’m speaking the same language as the instruments. Everyone hears a brand new beat different than the other. You may here a melody that I would never notice would work and I may find a flow on the 808 that you didn’t even think would be possible. It’s all organic and natural art.

14. why is music so important and dear to your heart ?

It has gotten me through the toughest parts of my life. Also it always helped me learn key information the Capital STEEZ and Ab-Soul thinks I should know and I probably would’ve never listened if they didn’t put it on top of a beat. Music can be very Psychological.

15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)?

Make music about it. Obviously I’m going through it for a reason. All it is really is more topics for more songs and more emotions for more beats. Hate and anger brings passion.

16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?

Kaioken by Me and DJNoose. It’s our first project together, completely produced and arranged by him. No features, all hits. That set the bar for my artist image and I’m still getting praises 2 years later after it dropped.

17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?

I make all my own cover art through my creative company ‘Graphic Arkk’ [Arkk Angelz Graphic Art].

18. who makes most of your beats or production?

DJNoose (@DJ_Noose), Boe (@LetItGoBoe), Crysko (@itsCrysko), and David Chief (@DavidChief_). I support and pay all my producers for exclusive rights and they all have featured artist credits and writing credits. I don’t do shady business.

19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why?

I always wanted to make Control System 2 with Ab-Soul on some Watch The Throne shit but spitting nothing but knowledge on the most mainstream sounding songs he could imagine getting on. I want to get a conscious rapper out their comfort zone and make this new generation learn.

20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why?

Metro Boomin’. His beats are majestic. They would bring out another beast in me i never knew i had. He so hard he retired in 3 years because he didn’t have no one left to produce for. Goat status.

  1. do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months ?

They’re cancelled because of COVID-19.

  1. for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists?

My ability to be versatile on one song/album. I’ve made conscious trap songs and trap conscious songs. I engineer and master all my music. I make beats. I edit my own videos. I run a record label, clothing line, and graphic design company without making any profit going in. I’m working like I’m a full time artist with only 13 monthly listeners on Spotify because one day i will have fans and they will be able to sit back and retrace my journey and eat up everything they missed. I gotta are sure it’s perfect.

  1. at the end of the day what does music mean to you ?

Without music I would’ve been lost in this world a decade ago. I owe music my life.

24.  Any live shows or projects you got coming up?

‘4’ the studio album coming April 24th. Video and merch coming this May.
