H.Figures - Interview

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?

Can find me under the name H.Figures. I am from Lafayette, Louisiana 2. What made you start making music?

I've always had a creative side. Rather its drawing/painting, writing, music, etc i just have to grt this need of creating out and I have found music is the best way to Express myself and found a real love and passion for it 3. Who are your influences?

My influences range and may not be the most common. There's the likes of Wu-Tang clan, A Tribe Called Quest, but also bands like deftones, Crosses, Mike Shinoda from the band Linkin Park and a range of others and many genres. 4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

It's beautiful man. I'm not the biggest fan of modern day hip hop and a lot of the stuff on the radio or the mainstream but if you dig around, the underground has some real talent and real inventive stuff. Not your every day rap. It's different and experimental and you can tell these artist have a real passion.

5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?

Mostly just keep building up my fan base and spreading my music out. Keep grinding and building and establish myself.

6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?

I guess it would have to be myself. Because I haven't let myself be broken yet but the things I've had to endure.

7. What is your process for recording music ?

I usually have a beat or music ready before I even think of recording anything. I have this thing called auto writing where it's like inspiration hits you and music just comes to mind so I make it then I write without thinking and any word or situation sets it off. After that is all done I look at it as a rough draft so I tweak it and see what needs to be changed then just hit the studio all day and night and record and write the way someone would write for a rock song. Gives a different dynamic and that's also just the way I used to writing music.

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?

Well I just released a single 'Ocean Eyes' that is available everywhere so go check that out. And early next year I will be dropping my first full length album

9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?

I'd have to say my favorite thing is that I get to share this with people. Rather its strangers or people I know. Getting to share this passion you have with people who can relate to what you say in your art or being proud of showing it and giving it to the world. Its phenomenal.

10. What impact do you want to have on the world?

To quote a song of mine "To save the lost kids and put healing in their hearts"

11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?

This is a lifestyle. Never viewed it as something thsts cool to do or I wanna do it just so I can say I'm doing it. I have to do it. NEED to do it. I feel it in my soul I need to.

12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?

It would have to be someone underground. Theres an artist called Notebook. that is phenomenal with his bars and beats and doesnt stick to one genre or lane. That's one big reason I'm drawn to him. I dont like confinement or labels and like blending styles. Another is a friend of mine Jaysus Khrist. He is totally talented and needs to be out there more.

13. what does the music you create make you feel?

Relief really. I pour my soul and heart out and all the thoughts I have and I feel it drains all that bad out. 14. why is music so important and dear to your heart ?

It's one of the best art forms to allow you to express yourself and take anything you feel inside and pull it out. It could save you and does save many people and I think thats wonderful.

15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)?

I'd have to say that there are like minded people out there. My music is very different and I'm not out here making popular music or hype club music so it's hard to find where I belong but I've seen there are people out there who like more serious stuff or weird experimental music. Theres a whole collection of those kinds of people.

16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?

Will have to he and always will be with my boy Jaysus Khrist. It's always a blast to be in a studio with him and see this man work effortlessly and we have a good time doing it.

17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?

All the art is mine. I'm very picky about things like that and also it's another way to be creative and express myself so I do it.

18. who makes most of your beats or production?

99% of the time it is me. I love the production side of music and want to do that. Also its hard to find people who are on the same wave length of the kind of sound I want to do but I have collaborated with a producer called bluffgawd and he has amazing music and plan to work with him more.

19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why?

Mike Shinoda. He is underrated in my eyes. Rather it's from the band Linkin Park or his solo rap stuff in Fort Minor or to what he is doing currently as a solo artist. And he has always been my biggest inspiration with his talent and just who he is as a human being.

20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why?

Thinking out far I would love to work with RZA.

21 do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months ?

No show planned for awhile but looking into it. So I'll keep you posted.

22 for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists?

Well get ready for a rollercoaster haha. The genre and style ranges but I mostly stay in the lofi ambient type style. I like the idea of doing that kind of music like a lofi alt rock band but with rap. And on occasion I have some heavy rock songs or your more expected rap. I like to experiment (which you'll hear me say a lot) and do new things. Never put yourself in a box.

23 at the end of the day what does music mean to you ?

To me music is an outlet. It's a place to create or to do some self therapy.
