K-Killa - Interview

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?Illinois born and raised, not Chicago, the Central part. 

2. What made you start making music? I have always had an affinity for music, but I got my first instrument for Christmas when I was like 10 or 11 and have been at it ever since.  3. Who are your influences?I really listen to a bit of everything and pull a little from everything, but hip hop wise, Ludacris, Xzibit, Eminem, Wu Tang, Black Thought, Mac Miller are the big ones.  4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?It’s alive and kickin, a strong line up of dope artists

5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding for music? Get heard by as many ears as possible and collaborate more! If possible do some shows.

6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be? It’d have to be my girl, Divine. She’s my muse, she pushes me and encourages me more then anyone ever has. 

7. What is your process for recording music? Usually I will cone up with ideas for songs and then find a beat, but sometime the beat is the inspiration. Then I record on my old iMac into Pro Tools, mix and master it then upload. I’ve had to learn to do everything over the years due to lack of budget. 

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?I’ve been dropping songs every few weeks and I’m working on two separate projects. A new album produced by DreamLife Beats and an album dedicated to my girl with all the songs I’ve written about her.

9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper? I love the creative process and focus it takes, the challenge of reinventing yourself and the vibes that come with it. It’s therapy. 

10. What impact do you want to have on the world? I wanna show that anything is possible, that dreams come true. I wanna help people deal with things they are going through. 

11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?It’s really a balancing act. I wanna do it full time but I have responsibilities and have to work a job that pays to stay a float. I’m focused though and I know soon music full time will be my life. 

12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why? Jon Swaii. hands down. He is a genius. His motivation and skill inspires me everyday. 

13. What does the music you create make you feel? Relieved, this really is how I keep moving through life, it really levels me out in good times and bad. 

14. Why is music so important and dear to your heart? It’s my therapy, it’s the only constant in my life. It’s always been there to help me through the worst of times and elevated the best times to another level. 

15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)? The challenge of it. The ability to recognize progress. It’s always an adventure.

16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer? I’ve haven’t really had any bad experiences, so it’s hard to pick. I love every collaboration.

17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own? I make a lot of it but some times I’ll link up with @‪lifewitha_1 ‬

18. who makes most of your beats or production?I switch it up a lot but Jaguar Kevins, Kato, Squirty LeFlow, Homage, and DreamLife are some of my favorites!

19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why? There’s too many. I really wanna work with Xzibit or maybe Ludacris, they are who I grew up listening too. 

20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why? RZA, Dr. Dre, Statik Selektah, Timbaland, The Neptune’s... I just can’t pick.

21 do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months? Does anyone? I heard this corona stuff is canceling events for atleast a year.  

22 for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists? I don’t care about the trends, I make what I feel like making. So I have my own sound.

23 At the end of the day what does music mean to you? It’s everything, without it I’d destroy myself forsure. 24. Any live shows or projects you got coming up? New album later this year. Untitled for now but it’s produced by DreamLife with some co production from DJ Pain 1 and others. Features from Mark Battles, GaTa, Dasmonique, 94cove and more. Working on getting more YouTube content and visuals out. And getting my clothing brand, Black’d Out Clothing Co., off the ground. 25. Where can the people that checked out this interview find you?
