Lil Monte - Interview 30

Tell us your rap name and where are you from?

My name is Lil Monte and I am from Phoenix, AZ.

What made you start making music?

I’ve been making music for the past 6 months, but have been playing instruments and singing since I was young.

Who are your influences in rap or beyond?

xxxtentacion is at the top of my list for inspiration. He kept my pushing through the hardest times I’ve had mentally, and I couldn’t thank him enough. I would say Lil Skies is without a doubt my influence in rap and life itself. Everything he raps about hits home, and his mindset with this music shit is in another world.

What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

A lot of people want to make it, and very few take the steps to do it. The underground rap scene to me are the ones I would consider truly happy with what they do, and aren’t just doing it for the fame or what kids now a days call it, “clout”.

What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?

For 2019, my only goal, is to keep pursuing my dream and not to give up on it. Its very easy to get discouraged with music, especially being surrounded by people everywhere who don’t care to see you do big things. Keeping my mind in the right place, and giving my 110% love and passion into music, is what’s going to put me places, and it is my only goal.

You have 1 person to thank who would it be?

The one person I would thank right now, would be my producer “Martian”. He has given me and endless amount of filthy beats, and provides me with a chance to build myself on a platform and show everybody as well as myself that I’ve got what it takes.

What is your process for recording music ?

I am constantly writing lyrics/words/sentences, as the day goes on. I usually first link with my producer and we create a beat around a flow that I like, which in turn usually provides me with a mood for the song. Ill then throw in headphones, and put the beat on repeat and write flows/lyrics to the beat. I like to find a fire hook first, providing the overall mood for the song, making it easier for me to write the rest of it. I built an in home studio, so we set certain days to work hours on end, and not stop until we absolutely cant work anymore.

Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?

I have my first album dropping in the month of February, titled “Silent Thoughts”. It will be a series of songs put together, each one showing different thoughts I have as I go throughout life, introducing myself as an artist so people have something to relate to.

What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?

I would say my favorite part is just being able to fully express myself. Music to me is an art, and I think creativity in people shows a lot about them. I tend to keep my thougths/feelings to myself but with music, it provides an outlet for me to keep myself from breaking down during hard times.

What impact do you want to have on the world?

I want to show people that its okay to feel out of place in life, and that no matter what, to remember to keep pushing forward. In todays society, drugs absolutely took over the world and people tend to mask their pains and troubles through drugs. I’m here to show them there is other ways, and that no matter how alone someone feels, for them to know they matter.

What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?

This is what I’ve dreamt of since I was a little kid, and to finally pursue it is crazy. It’s a lifestyle, I’m here to prove to myself and everybody who’s ever doubted me, that I can be something bigger. That you can achieve your dreams, with hard work and dedication.

Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?

My favorite artist in the rap game right now is Lil Skies, and Juice WRLD. Their music is my definition of perfection, and thought regurgitation. Everything they rap about, is how I feel and it makes me feel uplifted when hearing it.

what does the music you create make you feel?

Makes me feel like there’s hope in this world. Nobody is supportive anymore, nobody cares if you succeed, they’d rather put you in the gutter to better themselves. When I listen to a song I complete, I feel like I’m on another planet. I feel like I have outdone myself each and every time.

why is music so important and dear to your heart ?

It gives me the chance to clear my mind, and keep it in a secure place. A lot of times I drift off into sadness and a loss of hope. Making music keeps me living in the moment, instead of living in the past.

Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)?

To remember that everybody starts somewhere. When I create a track that I believe is beautiful, and it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, sometimes its hard to deal with. But I remember, it doesn’t matter if I get it now, because someday the recognition will come.

whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?

One time working in the studio with Martian (producer), I recorded my vocals to a beat we created on Discord the night before. When he mixed them and we played it outloud, we were both bouncing off the walls in excitement, yelling the to lyrics because it was the best song we made to date. This song will be dropping in my first album next month, song titled “You”.

who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?

Normally my producer does my cover art for my work, but I will be working with a new artist by the name of lxstnsxund for my album cover art.

who makes most of your beats or production?

prodbyMartian

who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why

Id kill to work with Lil Skies, due to the fact he is my favorite artist, and I believe our sounds together would absolutely demolish a track.

who is one producer you wish to work with and why?

Nick Mira is at the top of my list for producers I wish to work with. Hes produced some of my favorite albums like xxxtentacions album 17, and many songs with Juice WRLD.

21 do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months ?

I do not have upcoming shows in the next couple months, but who knows things could change.

22 for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists?

I have a really good voice, and am a genuine good person. I care about the well being of everyone around me, and want the best for my fans.

23 at the end of the day what does music mean to you ?

Music is art. Without it, im unsure as to where I would be. There’s not a day that goes by that I am not listening to any music. Whether its Rock, or Rap (my two favorite genres). Its gotten me through tough times, uplifted me, and now that I am making music myself, I’ve seen an increase in my own happiness.

24 does your family support you with music?

My family does support me with my music, as they would love to see me and support me through any dream I ever had. However, they do not agree with some of the stuff I say, but they still support me through thick and then. Couldn’t thank them more.

25 at the end of the day when it comes to music we are in your world when listening to music by you...what type of vibe does your music bring ?

My music brings a vibe that shows people I have been through pain and sometimes am currently in pain, but that I always make it out. It can provide motivation for people by hearing me and thinking “wow he puts his heart and soul into this, even when he feels like he has nothing” and use it as inspiration. It gives you a sense of happiness.
