Mazi Wok - Interview

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?

My artist name is Mazi Wok, I am from Herndon Virginia, but I have lived all over Northern Virginia

2. What made you start making music?

What made me first start making music would be my best friend, he was the person to get me to make music. One day we were in the car hotboxing and just freestyling and he told me why not give it a try. But I have always loved Rap & R&B music growing up. The only thing was that I was never actually allowed to listen to it growing up. It was banned in my house, so I had to find ways to go listen to my favorite artist growing up.

3. Who are your influences?

My biggest influences right now would be Yung Pinch, Oliver Francis, and Lil Wayne. Even though Lil Wayne doesn’t seem like he would be an inspiration to me and my music. He was mostly what I grew up listening to and what I listen to daily.

4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

To be honest, I don’t have a take on the underground, I love supporting other artists. I love working with other producers and artists I love finding new talent to have them grow with the community.

5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?

My goals for 2019 were to be just focusing on how I can grow my audience. So far, I have completed a lot of my goals for 2019 and ready to set new ones for 2020. My first goal of 2019 was to put out my first project which did well on all my platforms. Another one was learning to produce, which I have been learning still have a lot to learn and everything just takes time.

6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?

If I need to thank one person, it would be Inbetween Beats. He was a producer that dm me on twitter saying he loved my music and he saw potential in me and how he wanted to work with me. He has been a great help with helping me become the artist I am today.

7. What is your process for recording music?

My recording project is weird because it’s so unpredictable, sometimes I already have beats in my email or dropbox and me already know where I want to go with the song. Other times I will just be watching my favorite show on YouTube JustKidding News and I will play a beat in the background and I will just hum something and see where it takes me.

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?

I was going to drop a project for the summer, but the timing wasn’t right. So, I decided to push it back. I’m still going to keep releasing music regularly, so keep an eye out, because whenever the time is right something might drop!

9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?

My favorite part about being an artist would be getting love from people I never met before. The way people react when they see I dropped a new song just makes me wanna keep going.

10. What impact do you want to have on the world?

The impact I want to leave on the world is to give back to the community that made you what you are today. So, I want to leave a lasting impression and how I could help change other people’s future and motivate them.

11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full-blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?

To be honest this is a lifestyle for me it was a hobby at first but I’m putting my all into this to make this my reality one day. I know that one day that will happen.

12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?

My favorite artist in the rap game right now would be Oliver Francis I’m just a big supporter of his. His recent project did throw me off a little because I didn’t know what to expect but I still enjoyed it. He is someone where his music just relates to me and that why I find so one of a kind.

13. what does the music you create make you feel?

It gives me chills as funny as that seems, it was something that I dreamed of doing and when I finally get something perfect as how I imagined it to be. I get chills on creating a new song.

14. why is music so important and dear to your heart?

Music is important to me because it is my therapy, I use it to get everything off my chest and how I feel. So, when I release happy music, that just the way I feel at that moment. So that why I have the music I make so close to my heart.

15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)?

To be honest I never thought about things I might face. When I first came out making music a lot of people fucked with me. As soon as I started doing my own thing, they didn’t want to be associated with me. So I take every moment as a learning experience and how I can grow bigger and better so for when the time comes I will just have to face it and accept it.

16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?

My best collaboration would be working with Inbetween beats. We would spend countless hours on a skype call working on tracks together till we made every track perfect. Sometimes it would be a struggle because he is originally from Sweden and the time difference would make things hard to plan but once we got things down everything was perfect.

17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?

I make all of my cover art, I used to do graphic design but fell off a while back. Recently I have been improving my skill at making my cover art.

18. who makes most of your beats or production?

The producer behind most of my tracks is Inbetween, he did everything from production, the arrangement to mixing and mastering.

19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why?

An artist I would want to work with would be Oliver Francis he has been such an inspiration to me. That the first time I met him I told him that one day we will make a song together. So, I do look forward to that day and it will come!

20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why?

To be honest I don’t have one, because I don’t like to confine myself to one sound or type of production. I see that if a producer can see my vision and add to it. We can make a great product.  That just me being real.

21 do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple of months?

At this moment I do not have any upcoming shows coming up. I most definitely want to get around to at least have a show sometime in the near future.

22 for people who haven’t heard of you what sets you apart from other artists?

For the people who have never heard of me, I would say that what makes me different from the rest is that I make melodic trap music. Yes, melodic trap but the difference I tend to incorporate more of a different vibe. Like, for example, my new song “Princess Peach” which has a lot of trap references but also a bunch of Mario references. I tend to do a lot of storytelling which is subtle but also my main content.

23 at the end of the day what does music mean to you?

My music is my life, I want to be happy with what I’m putting out or I won’t put it out at all. I want to be happy with my music because it’s a part of who I am.

24. Any live shows or projects you got coming up?

I do have a project coming out just don’t know when yet. I have been working on this project for a while now but for me timing is everything. So all my supporters will be the first to know when it’s coming!

25. Where can the people that checked out this interview find you?
