Mix - Interview

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from? My Rap name is Mix, I’m from the Southside of Chicago. 2. What made you start making music? I initially took an interest in making music because my room mates in my Freshman year of college wanted to rap and do music videos & I thought it would be cool. 3. Who are your influences in rap? Speaker Knockerz (r.i.p) was definitely the first artist that made me believe I could rap. My close friend @RealTibby who also raps was a big influence. A Boogie & Nav were definitely influential early on as well from an artistic stand point. 4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now? I think there is as much talent in the underground scene in rap as there has ever been. I also feel like the best talent resides in the underground rap scene because a lot of the artists are hungry to make it & let their talents be showcased. 5. What are your goals for the new year regarding music? To release a joint EP with fellow Southside Chicago artist @RealTibby titled “53/39” (the title highlights the respective streets we grew up on on the Southside of Chicago) Continue to Drop music videos & make connections within the industry Gain a bigger following with fans 6. You have 1 person to thank, who would it be? My mother for raising me by herself & constantly making sacrifices over the years so I could become the best version of myself, finding my passion in music despite the impoverished environment I grew up in. 7. What is your process for recording music ? I Listen to beats constantly until I find ones I like, then I write lyrics to them until I think it’s good enough. Then I try to create a hook that I think fits the beat. Once I rap the song a dozen times or so out loud if it sounds good, then I’ll get in the booth & record it. 8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for this year? My first ever EP entitled “53/39” which is a joint project with Chicago rapper @RealTibby. The EP is an upbeat, melodic type vibe that will have a party/club type feel. Several music video singles & video releases off the EP.
