Phoenix Jr - Interview

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?

• The name's Phoenix Jr and I'm from Durban(031), South Africa 2. What made you start making music?

• I think it's something that has always been there all along. Even back in High School, I used to write lyrcis and recite them. That was before I started hitting the studio and recording my own music

3. Who are your influences?

• Even though my sound is nothing like those artists who influenced me but it'll have to be Jay-Z, J Cole, Eminem and Nas. I'm also starting to follow the likes of 6Lack, Phora and I don't know if you know A-reece and Nasty C (both artists from South Africa).

4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

• It's all one and the same now! I feel like underground and commercial is one and the same now. Every artist at the top can be replaced by artists at underground. Underground rap scene is now more of a business that it used to. Every artist is trying to emulate the same style as that of commercial 5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?

• 2019 is almost over now. So, the focus is fully on the next year for sure. I want to do more and release more music.

6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?

• God (I'm here today and I'll be here tomorrow)

7. What is your process for recording music ?

• Get the beat, see if I can freestyle on it. If I can freestyle on it - I believe I can write on it and if I write on it I know I can kill it on the Mic. I don't know if it makes sense though but yeah, Haha.

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?

• Recently dropped my first ever full project, TIM3 EP. If things go accordingly, I might even drop another single before the year end.

9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?

• Pouring my emotions on beats and finding out someone can relate. That's priceless honestly speaking! 10. What impact do you want to have on the world?

• I really would love to spread LOVE. Whether it's by music or anyway other way possible. We all need each other after all, right? Yeah right!

11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?

• It's kinda both cuz as much as I want to make it a lifestyle but I also want to have as much fun with it. Also, someone gotta pay em bills. If it's not music, who is it going to be?

12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?

• J Cole. He killed everything. "Ok, no problem, I’ll show up on everyone album// You know what the outcome will be// I'm batting a thousand It’s got to the point that these rappers don't even like rappin' with me." Do I need to say more? Haha

13. what does the music you create make you feel?

• 1 word answer, "HAPPY".

14. why is music so important and dear to your heart ?

• It helps me and everybody go through things. Music is our last hope to connect (physically and mentally and even spiritually "sometimes")

15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)?

• would let this one pass only this time. I love to talk about things I had experienced or know and not assume. I think that's what makes me stay ahead of myself. Lolx!

16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?

• Remixing @cYgnu6 song(Get Up) has got to be one of the best collabs. I found myself rapping on EDM. Crazy! 17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?

• I don't have that one person who makes my covers but @Jayden - who made the cover my EP, outdone himself. I was impressed by his work. He's someone I'd love to work with again.

18. who makes most of your beats or production?

I. Beats? Jay Rich (He produced 80 something % of my EP) II. Production? Savage Mafiia. He makes my work easier at times though.

19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why?

• Nasty C. He reps 031 man! He's dope and successful already.

20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why?

• Metro Booming

21. do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months?

• I wish!

22. for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists?

• I don't think it sets me apart from most artists but I can rap and I can rap real good.

23. at the end of the day what does music mean to you ?

• "Welcome to a different world" 24. Any live shows or projects you got coming up?  . • Nada
