Scrimizzi - Interview 43

1. Tell us your name and a bit about yourself!

Wassup, my names Scrimizzi other wise known as the Bone Daddy cause i claim Jack Skellington as my illegitimate father lol! Cayman Scrimizzi is actually my real name but i go by just my last, which is full blooded Italian from my Dad who also got my first name from the Anne Rice vampire books he always read with the famous Lestat which the movie "Interview with a vampire" is based on. He past in a car accident a few months before i was born. I was beyond inspired and changed by Tim Burton's work on "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and growing up a only child with a single mother (which i wouldn't change for the world) i clung hard to Jack and him being the representation of my late father as a kid. That movie and "The Crow" with the late great Brandon Lee, changed my life and were there when my dad could't be. I'm very grateful for the impact those movies had on me thus the reason i am Scrimizzi "The Bone Daddy"!! Oh and i make music hahaha!

2. What made you start making music?

Well i could say certain bands, artist or songs influenced me to but it was honestly before that. I was raised on music specifically Rock N Roll! My Mom introduced me to music as early as i can remember and I loved it. Baby videos of me barley being able to walk hanging on to the living room speaker that was twice as tall as me jamming and dancing to Led Zepplin and Metallica. First concert was ZZ Top backstage with my Mother and Uncle, think i was like 3 or 4 years old, can't even remember things that young or at least not suppose to be able to but for some reason i remember the green room and all the food on the long catering tables backstage with everyone playing instruments and taking pictures, even still have those pictures my Mom took, remember none of the performance or the crowd or anything though hahaha. Crazy you can remember just a glimpse of something that young. Performed on stage singing with a Band named Drivin N Cryin that my Uncle worked with very shortly after that around 4 or 5, signed some college girls tit, Mom was pissed but my Uncle thought it was great haha, remember all that vividly. She had me a guitar before i could walk and in guitar lessons at like 6. And i ate it up. So if i had to pin point it, i would have to say my Mom is what made me want to make music since the very beginning. And the blessing and influence of Rock N Roll her and my Uncle introduced me too so early.

3. Who are your influences?

Just gotta look at my tattoo's for that one, got most of them ink'd in my skin haha. But i was influenced by a lot because my mother having such an open mind to music and introducing to so many different styles of music so early in my life. I mean i was listening to things like Korn and Marilyn Manson by like 4th grade haha. But everything from Stone Temple Pilots (I wanted to BE Scott Weiland and looked to him as a father figure for along time) to, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, John Lennon, Elvis Presley to, Johnny Cash, Led Zepplin, The Cult, and even to things like Tupac and on and on and on haha. Even newer things from generation like Linkin Park, Bring Me The Horizon, The Neighbourhood, Mac Miller, even Lil Peep and Joji being so recent, played a HUGE roll in the artist i am today. Even love me some good ol jazz or classical haha. Im a bit of a music head and My Moms to blame haha i have a deep appreciate for music period. Because no matter the genre music is music, it transcends past language and can speak to anyone.

4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

I've been giving really long answers so imma keep this one short haha. I appreciate the boundaries of creative that are being pushed and the things that are being introduced and blended is what I've always been strong on doing myself. Breaking the wall between genres. But we can always do better and i think the underground definitely can and is.

5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?

To continue experimenting and getting closer to achieving how i truly want and know my music can sound. Continue connecting with the ones who are truly listening and know what the feelings and things i talk and sing about feel like and need to know they're never alone. The AllStars, all of you. Working with new, creative people, open minded people that aren't afraid to go outside the box and do things different. To stay humble and grounded. And to always stay truly yours, connected with you guys. Always letting you guys know I'm no better, I'm nothing special, we are all the same, we are ALLSTARS! We can only light up the sky together. And you can do ANYTHING you want to do. Cause I'm just as regular as the rest of us. And thats what makes us special. We all go together or we don't go at all!

6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?

My Mom hands down. Mama's boy in the life and the next. I love that women and would be who i am today if it wasn't for her. Mama Scrim is the true OG AllStar!

7. What is your process for recording music ?

It's a vibe in the air really for me. Anytime isn't always the best time for me. There hasn't to be a feeling a moment ya know? Usually it's just me though, sad as that may sound haha. But unless i've got someone very close to my heart around theres no need for randoms being around during vulnerable moments like that ya know? You opening up and thats special and not alway the easiest thing to do. So its usually just me alone, smoking, drinking a little something and listen to old music i really like and inspires that vibe, that feeling. There was just something specially about the music back then and that what i try to aspire to get back to. I want my music to give people that same feeling.

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?

I'm in the studio for the next few weeks recording the next EP that'll be announced and have a release date very soon! I haven't put out a full project in a while only singles, I'm really excited and proud of the songs going on this one. So I'm really looking forward to releasing that to you guys. We're also gonna be setting up a few surprise shows for later in the year (Summer - Fall) which will be a surprise announcement soon as well. So if you wanna kick it with me and the ALLSTARs keep an eye out for those dates! We can't wait to chill with all you guys, our family! And light up the sky!

9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?

The connection. The ability to escape. It really is therapy. So many times when nothing else could help music always did for me. I can confidently say I wouldn't be here right now talking to you if it wasn't for music. I'd have been gone along time ago. So thats my favorite part for sure, just the thought of being maybe being able to do that for someone else one day is the greatest feeling I can think of.

10. What impact do you want to have on the world?

Peace, Love, and Positivity of course! Acceptance and understanding. Inconclusiveness. Help remind people to always think, and question and always search out the truth. To not accept the spoon fed answers. To be strong and stand up for whats right and true. Fuck this grimy shit we're all so use to now. Maybe be remembered when Im gone as someone who cared a lot, and tried hard to contribute something good. Even if its the littlest thing that could help someone, help the world get to a better place. To show that you can do anything you want in this world. No matter what anyone says. Fuck em! It's your life. And it's only for a minute. So do it. Anything that makes you truly happy in this life. To show you can never give up, never let this fucked up system we are all in and all the emotions, stress, anxiety, and depression it causes to control you. Don't let how fucked the world is right now win. Someone's always depending on you to keep trying. Don't let it get the best of you, it doesn't deserve the best of you. The people counting on you do.

11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?

Oh it's definitely my life and more, obviously haha. I don't know what i would do without music. But I enjoy it as well, love it rather haha. I would do it even if it would only ever be a hobby and you wouldn't ever get anything from it i would still do it till the day i die. Music just really is everything to me. Anything to do with music Im interested. It's like playing a video game to me haha i get beyond excited haha! I really do it for the pure love and need for it. Ambition towards it is whatever comes Im just doing what i love, taking it as it goes and being as thankful as i can for whatever comes.

12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?

I honestly don't listen to many people doing big numbers aside from Joji, BlackBear, Post Malone, Mgk, and Bexey now that Peep and Mac Miller are gone. Doesn't mean i don't fuck with the artist blowing the game up right now by any means. But if i honestly had to pick a FAVORITE and someone I'd love to work with is WHYNOTCORDELL for sure!!

13. Anything else you have to say ?

I think I've talked you guys to death enough haha so ill just end it with. ALLSTAR SHIT FOREVER!!! Thank you ROYAL RAP for the time! and KEEP SHINNING!!
