Tall Tree Hippy - Interview
Interview 10/28/19 for Tall Tree Hippy
1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?
Tall Tree Hippy comes from The Valley in Arizona. I was born in a small town in Globe, AZ.
2. What made you start making music?
I always felt like I had something special to share with the world that's real, being that i've been through so much in such a short time! As we all do, but my grandma on her death bed told me that she knew I was here to do something special! She didn't know what but she had a strong feeling, and that gives me the self belief that I needed to chase a dream.
3. Who are your influences?
Influences for Tall Tree would include Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, J.Cole, Drake, Lil Wayne, Logic, MGK, Wu Tang Clan, 2Pac, Biggie Smalls, Snoop Dog, and Ice Cube etc.
4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?
The underground has a lot of potential out there right now to keep growing and expanding! On the downside though I do feel like the market is over saturated with many fake artist (industry plants). Being that it is so easy to make your own music at in home studios, the game has been plagued with a lot of garbage being uploaded, or knock off artist. This makes it extremely hard for viewers/fans to find good talented artist, but the talented will and can prosper after the time and hard work is put in. It is a very exciting time to be an up and coming artist in 2019.
5. What are your goals for 2019 regarding music?
The main goal for Tall Tree in 2019 was to grow the YouTube Channel and to release new content at least once a month. The goal to reach 500 subscribers was recently accomplished after many long months of hard work and putting ourselves out there! Going in 2020 the new goal is to reach 1,000 subscribers! The second goal of 2019 was to get onto all major streaming platforms and that has been accomplished as well!
6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be?
If I had the chance to thank one person for helping me chase this dream and go after the music it would be my grandma Carol. She gave me the motivation and belief in myself to be something great, and go out in the world and put my message out there in the world for everybody to see and hear! She was the strongest woman I had ever known, much love Gma <3
7. What is your process for recording music ?
Getting together with fellow Engineers/Artist and creating a beat (vibe). The second part comes to writing down the lyrics, usually with paper and pen and even sometimes in the Notes on our iPhones. This part takes the longest being that we want to tell a message with our words. I try convey the imagery of the song by feeling what I'm saying about my past or current events in life and I want share. After laying all of the main parts of the song as far as the chorus and verses, we then go into recording our adlib and dubbed tracks when needed. After this, it now comes to the mixing stage were we add the sauce!
8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for?
The most recent Release on October 25th, 2019 was 'Vices.' (feat. Dichotomy & Cam'Leo) (Prod. Ambrison). This is the first of a collective project that we're currently working on, that will amount to an 8 track EP by the end of 2019. There is another EP Releasing in 2020 '2 Live Is 2 Die' on All Major Streaming Platforms featuring Jegus from Lavish Crew.
9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper?
My favorite part about being an Artist/Engineer is sharing my art with the world! The struggle of making my craft and getting the product ready for release, the ups and the downs that come with being a perfectionist. Also the feeling when you give something so precious (gift) to someone, and it helps them through what their going through with maybe even a smile. Or when you get those personalized DM's on Instagram or Twitter when people (fans) express how much they enjoyed your song (music).
10. What impact do you want to have on the world?
I want my impact on the world to be that if you consider yourself to be a Tall Tree Hippy, that your at peace with the way your living your life. Of coarse it's about spreading positive energy, peace, and love, but to the main goal it to live a life that you are completely happy with the decisions you are making day by day! Being the best YOU that you can be, and always staying in a positive mind set!
11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying?
The Ambitions of Tall Tree are to inspire people around the world, to be the best versions of them selves by sharing our own trials and tribulation. Letting other know that they are not alone and that they dont have to deal with hard times alone. Another ambition would be to eventually start generating enough revenue to quite the days jobs and working for our own dreams! This is a 24/7 365 grind when you are an independent artist in the game. There are multiple hours a day spent working on the growth of all the social media accounts (IG, Twitter, FaceBook, TikTok, SnapChat). Everything is not about the money, although it is required to survive in this world, we are working day by day, hour after hour trying to figure the best solution to getting the music (message) out there!
12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why?
Favorite Artist out right would have to be J.Cole. This man is a visionary for real! He has been able to accomplish so much on albums were he is the only artist on the pieces of work. He also leads a strong team with Dreamville, being able to showcase multiple artist! A true inspiration to me personally and the stories he tells in his works of art! He really did it his own way!
13. what does the music you create make you feel?
The usual vibe of the music is very chill and relaxed, but recently we've been trying to put out more energetic music! The point of the music is to tell a story or hopes and dreams and how problems were resolved or how we'll accomplish those dreams! Trying to inspire and encourage people to take the risks, you only live once!
14. why is music so important and dear to your heart ?
The music is so important because this is a way for me to express how I'm feeling and the thoughts that go on in my head! Music is what truly speaks to me so i hope to do the same for someone else out there living their life for better or for worse.
15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)?
What works best for me is to take a step back sometimes and come to my endeavors at a later time. I usually have a more clear head and positive outlook when I take a step back and relook at the situation.
16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?
I would say the best collaboration experience was earlier this year in January 2019. In October 2018 I told all my following that I wanted to make a song with 3rdOcean and King Tut King Shad, two other local artist in Arizona that are doing good things. I spoke into existence something that I wanted to obtain, and it finally happened with music tribulation. I spoke that into existence in 2018 but wasn't able to get them to the studio 'All For Me' with prodnotme until January 2019. At that we had to have them come to the studio at separate times to record due to scheduling issues. After the 6 to 8 hour day int he studio we finally were able to get the skeleton and some of the meat on the bones of the song! It was an amazing feeling to get thus far in bringing this song to life. I had contacted EyeAm about a graphic design but he was unfortunately unable to make the graphic design for this song, so I had to take matters into my own hands. We decided we would make this a Valentine's Day release, but while I was on vacation in San Francisco California, I was having an issue uploading the file of the song I had from notme, I contatcted him and he was luckily able to resolve the issue and the song was released to YouTube, SoundCloud and Spotify only at the time but on the due date and time! There were many ups and downs to get this song made! The next move is to get them together to shoot a music video for 'All For Me' now, potentially a goal for 2020.
17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?
Most of the cover art for the big projects have been done by EyeAmpPeriod. One of the best graphic designers in the world! He's from Vancouver, Canada. We have known each other a little over 2 years since 2017, when we met on Instagram. When we do create our own cover art Kyle Cullen, KillChris, DodgyAmerican and Draven Blue have made those pieces for our in house productions.
18. who makes most of your beats or production?
Most of the beat productions are made by prodnotme, Killchris, DodgyAmercian, Ambrison, and many other inspiring producers like Lucid Soundz, Origami, and Homage.
19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why?
If we had a chance to work with another artist who has made it would have been Mac Miller. He has always been a very huge inspiration. I would have to say though I have been listening to alot of School Boy Q and Jaden Smith recently so I would have to say one of them!
20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why?
I would love to work with Homage or Origami Beats. This is because I have been a huge fan and follower of their come up and social media pages! I have watched their channels grow to where they are today, and am blessed to be apart of their story! It really is one huge community once you put yourself out there!
21 do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months ?
There are unfortunately no upcoming shows for the remainder of 2019. Throughout the year we did perform at 5 separate shows, what an amazing experience!
22 for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists?
What set Tall Tree apart from other artist is the fact that we are doing what we love the way we want to do it, and not boxing ourselves in to be like any main stream artist! We are doing everything in our power to make our dream come true to help fellow human beings with the struggles and triumphs of life! Because NO ONE is going through these aspects ALONE! The music isnt just about having money and getting all the girls and flexing possessions that many everyday people will never own.
23 at the end of the day what does music mean to you ?
At the end of the day music to me means the free expression of ones self. That the music is a way to convey the energy one may feel at certain times from day today! Everyone on this planet has their own taste in music as do artist having the power to express their taste in the creation of music and inspirations.
24. Any live shows or projects you got coming up? Shows Announcements for 2020 coming soon! '2 Live Is 2 Die' Featuring Jegus From Lavish Crew coming in early 2020 (date to be announced)
