Trae Nem - Interview

1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from?

I’m Trae ‘Nem, aka the Heartbreak Kid, from the Mississippi Gulf Coast

2. What made you start making music?

I’ve been singing since I was 6. While DJing in college, I met different artists and always ended up vibing out at their studio.

3. Who are your influences in rap/hip-hop?

Kanye West is #1. Wale and Lil Wayne for lyricism… But I am inspired sonically by Travis Scott, Trippie Redd and Pierre Bourne. I like artists that push their craft to the extreme.

4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now?

The underground rap scene is difficult to navigate through. Platforms like TikTok make it easy for silly trolls to blow up but people won’t even spin their full album.. i respect the artists that have passion.

5. As an artist who has to compete with thousands of others for streams/plays, what makes your music worth people clicking on?

Each song I make is unique vibe. From that state I was in at the time.

6. You have 1 person to thank, who would it be?

Definitely Moms

7. What is your process for recording music ?

Pour up a lil cup of Bumbu. Vibe out to the beat in my wireless headphones then hop in the booth at home

8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for this year in 2022?

I plan on dropping a full album in February, Heartbreak Trae

9. What keeps you motivated and on path towards your goals for music?

Just the love for music. When I can zone out and write a hit in 30 minutes, I had a good day.

10. What impact do you want to have on the world?

I make lover boy, heartbreak music. But i always drop pieces of my real life into it. I think all guys will relate to my songs cause it’s real.

11. What's your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer?

Had a dope collaboration with Jai da Don last year called “Drip Donor”. that one went crazy.

12. Who does all of your cover art or do you make your own?

I reach out to real artists that I find on the web. Nothing recycled.

13. Who makes most of your beats or production?

My go-to producer is Jwood2x. You’ll here a lot of his work on the HBK Trae tape. He’s a top-notch engineer as well.

14. What can we expect next from you in 2022?

I definitely wanna collab with different artists around the world this year.
