Type1ne - Interview
1. Tell us your rap name and where are you from? My Rap Name is Type1ne & I’m from Toronto, Canada. 2. What made you start making music? When I was younger, I was diagnosed with type one diabetes, and at that low moment in my life, hip-hop was what made me feel better about my situation. I spent my youth listening to rap music and dreaming about becoming a rapper. This was when I thought of the concept of Type1ne, something that reminds me that I'm powerful even though my body may feel that way. In 2018, I recorded a freestyle that gained some traction, and I began my career. At that moment, the idea of Type1ne was started. 3. Who are your influences? I use all aspects of Contemporary hip-hop to make my music. I am inspired by Mac Miller, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, The Notorious B.I.G. Kanye West & JAY Z, to name a few 4. What is your take on the underground rap scene right now? The underground scene is dope right now, so many new and innovative artists that are releasing heat constantly. Like real heat that they actually give a shit about. I’m glad to be able to collaborate with these fantastic artists. My next tape got so many of us on it. 5. What are your goals for 2020 regarding music? My three main goals for 2020 are first, to drop a concept tape about the struggles of isolation and my personal journey in music. Then work on gaining new fans and also network more within the underground artists to create strong opportunities. 6. You have 1 person to thank who would it be? I did this myself, I’d like to thank me. 7. What is your process for recording music ? My recording process is straightforward. I need some coffee, some weed and a note pad. I usually get sent beats from my favorite producers, so I skim through those until I find something I like. At that point, I write my hook lay it and then write and record the verses after that. I mix it, listen to it if I like it, I master it, if I don’t, I throw that shit out and try again. 8. Any upcoming projects or singles fans should be getting ready for? Yes, My Album I'm Alright, R U OK ? is due out this year. I got some dope ass producers and artists showing out on this tape really making it something special. I got King Madi, Rodman Shah, Pally Ray, Yung Fway, Lim0 & Homeboy760, to name a few. It's really gonna be a moment.
9. What is your favorite part about being an artist/musician/rapper? The art of making unique music that makes me happy is the best part about being an artist. 10. What impact do you want to have on the world? I want to really make a difference in the diabetes community. I want to provide as much as I can to find a cure for this terrible disease. The proceeds of my debut album Ego Death, was entirely donated to the Canadian Diabetes society. Doing it for kids like me who might be down about themselves 11. What are your ambitions with music is this just a hobby or is this a full blown 24/7 lifestyle your embodying? My ambition in music is to make the best possible music that I can to push forward the culture, allowing me to continually evolve as an artist. 12. Who is your favorite artist in the rap game right now and why? Benny, the butcher, is my favorite artist in the game. The entire Griselda movement is insane. The hunger that Benny has and his bars are just out of this world. The story he tells and what he’s been through inspires me to push myself forward.. Even if I don’t know that life, it still inspires me so much. 13. what does the music you create make you feel? It makes me feel high. 14. why is music so important and dear to your heart ? Music is dear to my heart because when I was younger, it was an outlet for me and make me feel secure when I was really wasn’t. Its been important to me ever since I heard graduation as a kid, and I understood the magnitude of great music. 15. Taking this as a passion what works best with you for endeavors you may face (regarding to music)? I just everything with a grain assault and try to realize that everything happens for a reason no matter how bad of a loss you take, you will get back up. 16. whats your best collaboration experience with another artist or producer? I really mess wit King Madi, we made a hard track together on his album Matrix. Just a real good dude and honestly cares about his art so much it's really inspiring to see that these days. We got heat in the bag too, so be on the lookout for that. 17. who does all of your cover art or do you make your own? I make my own cover art. Cover art is critical to me as an artist because it either draws in the listener to the song or repels them to turn it off. That's why, with my cover art, I try to make it sharp and minimal with intense colors. 18. who makes most of your beats or production? For my upcoming album, I locked in with Lim0 beats, I found him through youtube, and I’ve just been knocking out songs over his production like crazy. Talented producer. I usually look at my email for beats, but I was looking through youtube, and I found his music, really on some Madlib type shit. We sound crazy together, wait till you hear it. 19. who is one artist you wish to work on music with and why? I’ve always wanted to collaborate with Childish Gambino. Donald Glover is one of the great artistic minds of our generation, and we could really make some heat with me on the rapping him on the singing. That would honestly be a dream come true for me, one of my favorite all-time. 20. who is one producer you wish to work with and why? I've always wanted to work with the Alchemist. Man is a mad scientist behind the boards. His beats are just on another level. You feel every sound that he puts into his music like its part of the guy's soul. My dream is to have a whole tape with Alchemist. That would be lit. 21 do you have any upcoming shows in the next couple months ? Who knows when ill be performing next thanks to COVID. V questionable. 22 for people who havent heard of you what sets you apart from other artists? What sets me apart from other artists is my unique and style of music. I don’t conform to any standards when making my music. When everyone tries to match the poplar sound, I’m making the polar opposite. Music with meaning. Music that has value. Not just another Instagrammer who picked up the mic cause they had followers. 23 at the end of the day what does music mean to you ? Music means the world to me, and making music means even more than that. Music, especially hip-hop, has helped me through some dark times in my life. Rap made me feel good when I wasn’t right. Music is everything. 24. Any live shows or projects you got coming up? I'm actually making an album right now, and it will be out in the next few months. The album is called "I'm Alright, R U OK ?" and its a written documentation of my experiences in the hip-hop community documented during the COVID-19 pandemic. The good parts, the bad parts, all included in a cohesive concept album. I began really challenging myself to tap into deep memories that I had a hard time accepting at first and use that to make compelling music. The album is inspired by Piñata by Freddie Gibbs. The heavy use of features the style of beat and the overall feel of the album with all the vocal snippets really gives you the feeling you are living the music from my point of view. Can't wait for everyone to hear it, the single "_The Night My Dreamz Died…" is coming soon as well as a banger I call 'Momentum' so this album is really going up. 25. Where can the people that checked out this interview find you? Everyone can find me @type1ne_ on Twitter or Instagram. On streaming platforms as Type1ne. Check out my music its really deep, and I’m sure you will enjoy it. Pce.
